Spong: After I get my VDSL connected next Monday, what happens if I connect  an old fashioned ADSL2+ modem to the line?

I setup and test a variety of ADSL2+ modems at times, and wondered if I can still do so? Will my line fall back to ADSL or is this a one way trip?

Secondly, once Telneted into the new Technicolor TG589nn v2 modem, how do I know which DLM profile I'm on as the week progresses?

In theory the ISAMS could allow ADSL2+ to sync with VDSL2 enabled, but its been disabled on the VDSL2 profiles by chorus design. So yes, one way trip.

We're close to the edge of Chorus map for VDSL, attenuation was 9.x on ADSL.

Ethernet speed tests and DLM profiles for the first 8 days on VDSL along with current line stats below. Looks like modem has been on DLM-1 for going on 3 days now (less latency slightly less speed than DLM-2 or DLM-4).

Pretty happy with the speed increase, any comments or suggestions?

If you don't have a master filter installed modem stats aren't really any sort of indicator of availability of service.

A prequel done by your ISP is the only definite tool, you can also simply see yourself with fairly high accuracy whether you can get VDSL2 by simply looking at the coverage maps on the Chorus website. If you're in a 20Mbps+ area that means you're in the VDSL2 footprint.

Mine was like that for a few days during the DLM training period, but it settled down afterward. No idea why.

Interesting ..

Seems like you do have to leave the router well alone for the first 10 days while its DLM tuning, I spent the first day or two improving (rewired) my home wiring and moving the router next to the incoming line so router was up and down while I plugged in unplugged tested etc, initial results really disappointing then left it and has really improved

Just wondering about the power, I had a look around on the forums found no answer but others had posted high power some on the up others on the down, wonder if its a bug on the router ?

What is the CLI command to find out what DLM you are on ? Is it 1 best going down to 9

test 15mins later, nothing else plugged into router just PC via ethernet. Is it normal to be so variable ???



Tried again this time using INTERNET EXPLORER as my browser not Chrome, results seem a lot more consistent is IE better for testing ..

Just been moved on to DLM 1 today, download speed dropped a little along with upload speed, (i get the same results from Telecom speedtest, maybe a little higher upload), but really, overall very happy  with speeds, over 3 times what i was getting on ADSl2  download and 7 times the upload, and serves my needs fine, occasional online gaming, Quickflix etc.

Thanks for your post.

Seems latency increased 2-3 times. Thats usless interleaving thing going through, and looks like it is not possible to switch off. I have tried figure it out with Telecom support-helpdesk before vdsl install, but they don't know anything about it. 

On my current adsl2+ connection i don't have interleaving, and have 6-10 ms two way ping to the gateway or speedtest servers.

A brief google suggests the whole interleaving on/off thing isn't quite equivalent to vdsl2 - where I think the DLM profiles manage the latency/line quality bit.

I think DLM is interleaving depth management. For example: higher depth - higher speed - higher latency.

If you're using a Telecom-supplied TG589vn then you need to run 'xdsl info expand=enabled' from the telnet CLI. Default user is Administrator with a blank password.
