How far are you from the roadside cabinet to be getting these speeds?

My guess is up to 200m...

Google Maps shows mine is approx. 650m away :(

I think you should still have quite reasonable speed but probably around 30Mbps...

Would love to get on 17a as well. I'm about 120m away but probably have around 150m of cable length.
Pretty similar stats otherwise

Hi guys, I had Chorus show up yesterday and install the VDSL components. Speed is amazing at the moment with 30 Mbps down/10 Mbps up.
Only down side is we now have no phone as their is only one phone jack in the house (now dedicated to the modem). Previously we had two jacks but one was ruined thanks to underfloor insulation guys. It was not an issue with our previous setup (Orcon genius). The chorus guy told my wife he would be back today but has since been a no show. Can I install another phone jack myself? I have done this in the past but am unsure if I can now just branch of the box to the modem as I would have previously done.
also big thanks to this site as I would not have known VDSL even existed before

If that point is dedicated to your modem, then no you cant daisy chain off it.
You're best to give Chorus a call if he left you a card, otherwise let your ISP know and they will contact Chorus to return.

Here are my speeds after about 3 weeks of install. Was unhappy in the beginning as I wasn't even getting ADSL speeds but now it seems to have improved a lot. Thanks Telecom :)
What I don't understand is why such a big difference between wireless and wired. When on ADSL difference wasn't much, maybe 1Mbps. I would like to get the wired speeds on wireless. Any suggestions?

VDSL on now for about a month. Stats disappointing so far compared to some on this forum. See below.

Can anyone recommend a VDSL compliant modem?? I have the Technicolor supplied by Telecom but would like to see if I can upgrade from a local retailer like PB Tech.

Sync speeds from the Technicolor seem to be among the best, so changing for another is probably a waste of money.

I have mine bridged to an Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11ac).

That is an awesome line. Do you live in a cabinet?

Difference you are seeing will simply because of loss due to wireless, either your access point, client device, or channel and frequency you are running it on, not to mention wireless congestion. As you get faster throughput on your modem the differences between wired and wireless will become more apparent.

Thanks JonoNZ. Will hold off buying a new modem then, or at least the technology gets better. I had heard the DrayTek's were good for VDSL (?).

I have a Netgear D6300 which became redundant under VDSL, are there instruction in this forum how to bridge? Note I am a novice on this sort of stuff. Thanks.

I think I'm about 150m or less from the cabinet depends how it's measured and till what point at the house. This is a rough idea from Google Maps which shows 110m to a bus stop which is just next to the cabinet.
So, would changing to a better router help or not really? That's a considerable difference!

Hi, Lobster created a thread on bridging the TG589, as you can see from the responses there are variables that need to be tried regarding the service name etc, so a bit of playing about should see it going.

I'm now on day 4 of my install. Not overwhelmed by my speeds but considering I wasn't charged for the install, just the extra $10 a month on my plan, I'm still pretty pleased. Plus, I'm not in an optimal area, being at least 600m from the cabinet, so I'm happy to have gotten it installed at all.

The Chorus guy helpfully confirmed that my line was capable of around 35 down and 10 up. I got 33 down at one point on the first day. Since yesterday I'm hovering around 17 down which is a little less than I'd hoped for, but still better than the 13-15 I was getting on ADSL. The up has stayed pretty consistently over 8, which is an excellent improvement. I wonder why that is so stable when the down is so variable? Anyway, I realize there's still a week of DLM tinkering to come so maybe the down will improve a bit before they're done. Locating the modem in the centre of the house has certainly improved YouTube streaming in the living room.

It'll be interesting when we try out the home theatre streaming from my upstairs Mac tonight. I've been told the wireless broadcasting side of the Technicolour router is not that amazing. A friend of my sister recently bridged his to one of the new dual-band Linksys routers (he's on UFB 100) and his wireless speeds around the house went up almost 40MB! She sent me the before and after test results, and we went from the low 60s to the mid 90s. Colour me jealous. I can't wait for Fibre to arrive here.

Because your wireless device is probably 54Mbps (802.11g) ?
Check what you're connected as in your Wifi settings.
If you have a Wireless N device (150Mbps - 802.11n) then try testing with that.

If it is a wireless n device, then try switching off Power saving mode on your routers wireless - its in the wireless config options :)

If it's dissapointing, you could always roll back to ADSL2+?
You wont get better stats with a different modem, the reason your sync speed is lower than others - is due to your high attenuation which is distance related.

You could get a Fritz!Box from eBay, and then do some SNR tweaks...but its up to you if you think an extra couple of Megabit is worth ~$400...
