I predict Stuff Fibre will turn out much the same as MyRepublic. They advertise themselves as being the next big thing and offering something unique or special but under all that marketing you realise that they are no different to the other ISPs (or maybe even worse).
I find it weird anyway that Fairfax Media is getting in to the ISP business, it's kind of like if Spark or Slingshot started up a newspaper.

Stuff Fibre gets thumbs up from comparison site
"Stuff Fibre costs $89.50 a month for a UFB service with a 100 megabit per second download speed and 20Mbps up, including a free modem and installation"
"Stuff Fibre chief executive Sam Morse said the company had developed an internet phone service, costing an extra $10, that lets customers keep their home phone number. It provides free nationwide calling and includes a smartphone app that lets customers make and receive those free New Zealand calls from anywhere in the world where they have an internet connection, he said."
Pricing looks good $89.50 for 100/20 , free router and family filter. No Contract. I like the SIP phone app idea on cell phones. Guess it will come down to Customer support and backhaul :)

edit: Added TL;DR quotes :)

A glaring omission from Stuff's online article praising their own fibre service is how much data a customer gets for that $89.50 per month. There is no mention of this anywhere in the article, so are we to assume that it's an unlimited data plan???
freitasm:
Just had a 15 minute on the phone with Simon Tong, CEO Stuff Fibre. Notes I jotted down:
- No launch date yet as it is currently undergoing test but really close - wouldn't have announced if not close
- No bundled content if Stuff ever put up a paywall - net neutrality
- Fairfax considered options to grow declining revenues in face of advertising competition from Google and Facebook. People are willing to buy from Stuff and electronics were the type of products people more likely to buy (example included Samsung sales from time to time and Facebook group sales)
- Initial offering will be 100Mbps, unlimited, no contract
I would assume that it is
All their previous comments said unlimited

And now the bias news from stuff, about stuff is starting...

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
Who's service are they reselling? Surely won't be building their own network and I don't think Chorus is allowed to provide backhaul aggregation like with ADSL at this stage

"New Zealand Fibre Communications Limited" is a customer of Chorus so I'd say they have their own network, at least in parts of the country.
Hi,
Well I have signed up on Saturday I think it was to Stuff-Fibre After some email from My R. trying to hook me into a 24month contract with their new 1GB connection invention. I just got an email tonight saying I will be connected tomorrow. So I can't fault their service and no contracts.
Any chance of a separate thread for Stuff-Fibre? I can keep you updated with how it goes.
Cheers
