At $499 USD for the 3070, are we expecting prices of around $799-849 here?

I have a 1080TI now, I got it at release for what I assume was a pricing error that a retailer was good enough to honor, but with the currently small amount of PC gaming I do now, I am thinking I couldn't really justify the extra for the 3080... 3070 is still likely to be at least twice as fast as my 1080TI, correct? Then I guess it's deciding if the current CPU etc are going to cause another bottleneck. I have a 8700K and I don't really see any other reason to upgrade.

if the Nvidia numbers are to be believed the 3070 is about equal to a 2080ti in raw performance in which case it will be about 30% faster than a 1080ti.
However you will get the new features such as RTX and DLSS (which on its own would be a nice performance uptick in games that support it).

An 8700k shouldn't cause any bottlenecking in most cases with either card.

Seems like most retailers/suppliers are being pretty tightlipped about pricing and stock eta's in NZ right now.

Not sure that bodes well. If it's more than I have indicated, I may skip the first pass, hard to justify that kinda money for something I use fairly occasionally.

Not even close to twice as fast: RTX2080 Ti Vs GTX1080 Ti

The 2080Ti was not a huge leap over the 1080Ti, and I use it here as a comparison because its pretty close to the 3070 in performance. Granted these comparisons assume you will be using the new features your current card doesn't have (RT, DLSS).

I doubt there will be a 3070 in NZ for under $850 considering the international distribution chain / markups etc.

I think they will be more expensive. Expect the 3070 to be around $999 and the 3080 to be around $1400.

As for the 8700K not being the bottleneck. There is no blanket answer. @ 1080p it probably would bottleneck on some titles. At 1440 less so. And at 4K it would not be a bottleneck it would be the card.

Somebody was trying to point out in an nvidia thread that the Aus nvidia webpage had the 3070 listed at $800 or so aud. The rest of the aussies laughed him out of the convo, pointing out previous pricing of the 2070/super by retailers at roughly $1k.

It’s likely going to be the same here. Retailers had the 2070s at $1k, maybe $900 on sale. Only now after the announcement 2xxx series is dropping in price. Reality is, if they can make an extra 100-200 margin then they will.

I rarely see retailers selling products at or above the RRP price on the manufactures website, usually always lower..

Be interesting to see once they finally land..

You mean at or below right?

If they did then the average price of a 2070s ($499usd) would be around $800~, instead it’s been average $1k

The 2080ti ($999usd) would be $1.7~k, instead it’s been average 2.2k.

Theres a reason people used to (and still do in cases) buy from overseas.

$499 USD = $753.58 NZD at current retail exchange rate.

Then there is import taxes + other costs. Even though wholesalers might get them a little cheaper, I would expect an RRP in the ball park of about $899 -> $999 for a RTX3070 8GB.

And $1199 ~ $1349 for an RTX3080 10GB.

Wouldn't dream of the 3090 price.. but yeh that would be a beast..

Techpowerup has published an unboxing and preview on the RTX 3080. Looks to be pretty solidly engineered, I think I like the look better than AIB partner cards so far. It will be interesting to see how it performs thermally though.

The full review is to follow on 14th September, so I'm guessing that's when the NDA expires.

Sounds like 14th for Nvidia cards and 18th for AIB cards (US time of course) is when review embargoes are up.

I don't really understand why they have downsized from 11GB to 8GB VRAM (though I didn't investigate the reasons either). Is there a short answer?
