Hatched a Mareep finally, gave me 20 candy so 100km less walking required.
I also have a Mareep worthy of doing the evolution with, but still 56 candy to go (280km)

I've yet to come across a wild Mareep in Auckland, they seem pretty rare here. But I did finally catch a wild Lapras on Friday, thanks to the water event.
I'm walking with my Mareep at the moment. I've hatched two and caught none. Only one of the two had IV's over 82 so that one's getting evolved. I'd like one of each evolution stage, so hopefully I'll get a third sometime. I caught a huge CP Horsey at the Auckland Domain just over a week ago with excellent IVs which I evolved into a very big Seadra over the weekend. It got the most appalling moveset, so it's perfect to evolve into Kingdra. I just need that Dragon Scale...

On Saturday I managed to get a Sun Stone via my 7 day streak and at lunch today I managed to get another King Rock - with the Dragon Scale and this King Rock, I can get myself a Kingda and Politoed which will reduce my needed PokeDex entries down to two (Ampharos and Unown)
Dunedin seems to be a Squirtle hot spot for this water event rather than a Totodile ... which is annoying as I need to find more candies for another evolution attempt (after getting a bad moveset on my first Feraligatr)

I picked up a random Up-Grade item yesterday, not on my 7 day spin. Maybe they've increased the odds of getting one randomly?

As mentioned above, Saturday was my 7th day streak and I got a Sun Stone
Yesterday at lunch I got a Kings Rock and at some point between then and now I have received another Sun Stone (i checked the journal which went back to 7.30pm last night and it wasn't there so I assume I got it between 2pm and 7.30pm on Monday.
Definitely seem to have increased the odds of getting an Evo item .. and now my thoughts turn to - how many to keep after all the evolutions have been done.
I am thinking 5 of each
My Scizor got a bad moveset so I'm hoping for several more Metal Coats to keep trying for a better one.

I'm curious about the L30+ players who are dominating my local suburb gyms with Blisseys / Rhydons / Gyrados / Tyranitar / Dragonite armies.
Do they all know each other and operate as a team? Because I observe that in the rare event the gym gets taken down, within 12 hrs they have recaptured it so they must be really keen to (and readily available to go out and) maintain control of the gym and rake in the pokecoins.
What's other players experiences? Are you controlling any gyms through a co-operative arrangement, or are you just purely by luck going in with a random bunch of similar high level players?
What do their player names look like? If they've got a long string of random letters and numbers, it's likely that they're spoofers. My sister, my son and I often take gyms when we're out and about, but I don't have a team as such. I know there are organised teams here in Auckland, though. They have their own Facebook pages to organise raids. Nothing wrong with that, if they're playing legitimately. Niantic wants to encourage player collaboration. What annoys me is shaving - where someone uses a second account under a different team to knock out the bottom Pokemon in a gym so they can put their own in. I've been shaved out of quite a few gyms.

In my town of about 15,000 there are 11 gyms, of which I generally frequent 7 of them (the others are closer to me, but harder to access).
In recent weeks one of the gyms has been powered up to Level 10 with a CP50 Gastly on the bottom and only 1 or 2 Pokemon sitting in the gym.
Attacking the gym sees it "self healing" within seconds. Username of the Gastly owner is 11ii11iii1iii1111ii (or similar) - this gym is blue
However I've also seen a similar yellow gym (my colour), again a CP50 Gastly with the owner having a slight variation of 1's and i's in his username.
I managed to last a week in that gym before it was taken down.
Both reported
Ugh, hate botters. Why ruin the game for everyone else? Since you can only collect 10 gym bonuses at once, Niantic should make a 10-gym limit so botters don't go filling up more gyms than necessary. It'll be fascinating to see what this big gym re-work has in store when it arrives. Niantic have admitted it doesn't work the way they envisaged at the moment. They had to release in a rush to coincide with the US summer so a lot of features were not fully developed.

I'm sure that resulted in increased sales of touch screen capable gloves over here. :-p
Had a pretty successful trip to Christchurch over the last few days; gathering candies for species that don't regularly spawn in Dunedin
Walked *alot* and manage to reduce my candy requirements for Mareep down to 20, meaning 100km to go
