Just wondering what peoples thoughts are re: new phones being replaced/repaired whilst under warranty?

I bought a Z3 Compact via Spark website with a 24 mth plan beginning of Dec '14, but beginning of April the headphone jack stopped working.  Rest of phone was OK and worked flawlessly.

Took the phone to the local Spark shop for it to be assessed under its Warranty (paying a a $55 bond which I thought was pretty rude for a 4 mth old phone!!!).

Anyway heard today that its still being repaired as they wait for parts.  Turns out the headphone jack needed replacing, and then on pressure testing the phone they found the screen also needs replacing.

I would have hoped that at the stage of the screen needing replacing, and the extra delays (its now coming up to 2 weeks and possibly going to be 3 or more if/when I get it back) they would just write the phone off and send out a replacement.

At the moment Im getting less and less impressed with the Xperia range. My "S" was a pretty rock solid phone until it just basically stopped working with continual reboots.  My Z1 lasted a year until water damage (which on closer inspection was due to a faulty port cover which they shopped deemed I had caused ... which I totally refuted, since it was the SD Card slot and had literally been opened once) ... and now this on a new Z3 phone.

Funny, I'm about to go down the same path with my Z3 compact and was thinking / worrying the same. I also purchased mine on Spark last year and the screen started going black down half the screen. It happens on and off but can stay for days at a time. I know I need to take it back but knowing Spark repairs I will be stuck without a phone for quite a long time. Paying a bond is cheeky too, I agree!

Out of interest did you try returning directly to sony nz rather than spark or do they just redirect you to spark?

No, didnt try Sony direct just straight to Spark.

SPark store has been very helpful but basically can only communicate what the Spark repairers are telling them.

Had a "terse" chat with Spark online help where they tried to say that all is decided by the Spark store here.  Told them in no uncertain terms that wasnt the case and that I wasnt impressed with the delays nor the unwillingness to replace.  Apparently a Manager is going to give me a call to go over the case :)

My first z3 had battery issues and I had a hell of a time getting it returned or replaced.
got the phone friday, notice really bad battery over the weekend, spent monday/tuesday resetting everything up and testing, still same issue on wednesday, told spark on thursday who wanted to "send it away for testing" I said no you can replace it as its less than a week old.  Had a hell of a time getting the store or call center to do anything and a lot of running around.  Ended up stalking the head of customer service on linked in and sent an email who then sent it to someone else.

In the end they got so sick of me so they took the phone back and reversed the invoice (i got it on the no interest 24 month payments) and telling me to buy it from the sony store as they would not sell me another z3 compact.  So spark left me with no phone but still paying for the service.
Picked up another one from jbhifi and it works great.  Once i pointed this out via pictures and test between the 2 devices the spark employees all stopped talking to me and just ignored me.  However I did asked for a big good will credit for stuffing me around :P

I had an Xperia Z that ended up not being waterproof due to the glue holding the back cover failing. Sony was pretty good about replacing that for me and it didn't actually take long. I got a brand new handset but sold it instantly and waited for the Z2. The Z2 was fine (I didn't have it long though) and now I have a Z3 which I impatiently bought from Expert Infotech.

I have done a pressure test and I am almost certain that it won't be waterproof because the pressure value remains pretty much the same when I press on the screen, implying there is no increased pressure inside the phone. This is despite it never being dropped and being absolutely mint condition

Expert Infotech are notoriously difficult for warranty claims when the cause is not obvious, so I'm somewhat scared about what might happen if it did fail on me. I'm thinking about taking it in to them, showing them the pressure test and that it otherwise functions perfectly, and then getting them to dunk it under water for me.

I just don't think the waterproof-ness of Sony phones is all they say it is, as much as it pains me to say that as a very loyal Sony fan.

I think i must be 1 of the lucky ones, my z3 compact does show increase pressure when i push on the screen, as soon as I open a tab it does not move.
My Z3cis great and what i expect from the phone.  I also got 4 charging docks from aliexpress for about $12 each so I never really have to open up the tab to charge etc.  I did hear a number of tabs becoming loose from being open and closed to much and that is why i got the charging docks.

Yeah I use a charging dock too. Only time I open any of the flaps is to check for a software update which is pretty rare, so I know for sure it's not damaged (or at least shouldn't be). I just think that mine just isn't perfectly sealed somewhere else. :(

Yea same here.  Use a charging dock predominantly, only use the flap when having to charge in the car.  Which reminds me, must get a magnetic one for that! :)

Hi All. Just switched over to 2 x parallel imported Z3 compact D5833's as could not justify ponying up for a S6 and a iphone 6 for myself and wife.

The wife's phone arrived and I have it set up on 2Degrees - seems to work OK (struggled to get all her contacts out of the ancient Motorola Droid - the Sony transfer prog [PC Companion] was worse than useless and .vcf exports are failing (Google contacts got many but not all).

My Z3 should arrive next few days and will be replacing my battered S3 with an irreparable/dying screen on the Spark network....hopefully the transfer is easier with a more modern phone.

Question - Given these are parallel imported do the network providers updates get pushed out or do I follow the advice a few threads up and use an AU install?

I ordered and received 4 x Deff magnetic micro USB to magnetic connector adapters.  They work but the USB cable weight impacts performance as the magnets are not that strong , needs to be on flat surface and no movement. So the Deff units are unlikely to work in a car.

For your firmware, you will get the update when it is released to where the shop got the devices, i.e. most of them come from Hong Kong, they seem to get updates faster than NZ etc.
However saying that the non bloatware firmware (i.e. not sold by telcos that force sony to put on their apps) gets updated first.
Now for the car, the Z3 was not really designed for car kits as most cover the charge port/pins you could try something like this
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Arrival-phone-stand-tripod-for-phone-phone-car-holder-for-iphone-5-iphone-6-plus/32249202971.html
However I never trust the sticky car kits.  I have a car kit that covers the charging ports but 99% of the time my phone does not need a charge while driving so don't really have an issue.

I would suggest getting a couple of these

Also you might want to look at getting this as well

Thanks for the info.  Seems fishpond out of stock on the Magnetors, will look into the docks.
I have a hard case on way for my phone (Rearth Ringke Fusion).....wife is better at looking after hers so will try a smaller case (Case-Mate Barely There) and see how they go.

I don't have a case on mine at all, just the front and back screen protectors.  I find this is enough and should stop the glass/screen breaking.  Also with them on they are just the right size for the docks.

In total I have 3 docks, 1 in bedroom, 1 by my PC at home and 1 at work :)
