Will telecom do "30 day money back guarantee" on its xt netwrk? Coz American carriers do that. If a customer is not satisfed with their phone they can return it to the carriers store within 30 day. Maybe telecom won't provide that service anyway

What the heck! Telecom doesn't provide any money back guarantee. Duopoly isn't good in new Zealand. Bad service if we are not happy with their phones.

Vodafone offer mobile tv sky tv, what tv will xt offer? Can't wait to hear some good news about that. Mobitv will be the best :-D

sbiddle: Next G is 100% 850 UMTS. Telstra also run a dual mode and tri band 900 GSM + 1800 GSM + 2100 UMTS network under the MobileNet brand.

The 2100 network was a joint rollout with 3 who (to make things really confusing) are merging with Vodafone.

thanks sbiddle, i assume you're replying to me :D, so just to clarify, with regards to the article that i mentioned :

The good folks down under are finally getting access to the highest end Windows Mobile phone, with the HTC Touch HD being launched exclusively on Telstra until the 30th April, using their NextG 850 Mhz band network.

The device has been modified to fit their services, with the ability to watch Foxtel movies over Next G, and easy access to specific video channels. The HD will also support turn by turn navigation either for a subscription of $15 per month or on a pay per use basis.

and even though the HTC Touch HD is quoted in the "Next G" section of Telstra nextG website, it will actually run on their 850 GSM network??

I know the Touch HD does quad band GSM and WCDMA 900/2100, but the article implies that the Touch HD will run on Telstra Next G's WCDMA 850 network. From here, i thought there was the same possibility it would run on Telecom's XT 850 network as well as the 2100 network.

There are a few different versions of those handsets. HTC obviously made a 850 MHz version that would nicely fit Telstra, Telecom New Zealand and AT&T Wireless. There's no "special modification", it's just a different version.

Understood, but I didn't think that I was the one who took the discussion off topic?

Anyway, I'm excited that we are about to have a world class mobile network in NZ, and if the coverage and data speeds are as expected, I'm sure that I'll be using it for at least data very soon.

Thanks Freitasm! Good news. Hopefully Telecom launch the Touch HD, or even better the Touch Pro 2, id like a large screen for video media, but i need that slide out keyboard too

There is a ROR for phones bought from the website or over the phone with telecom 123, however if you use the phone or charge the battery it can not be returned, this is where you may have thought you were getting one device but recieve another.

On another note, I have been informed, reliabily, that once your migrate from CDMA to W850 you can not go back, there is not provision to reverse an upgrade.

to do with the CGA I believe (Consumer goods act). Basically if you are sold something without seeing it first (whether it be via the internet, through a call centre or another way) then you have a right of return (I thought 14 days, but maybe 7).

For Telecom phones I'm pretty sure you are allowed to have charged and used the phone, but only for less than 2 mins of airtime.

The CGA covers this under door to door sales and gives a 7 day cooling off period for any contracts signed.

I believe by law it only applies when you're not the one requesting the product however - it if you invite somebody to your house to demo a product and buy it, signing a contract then you have no comeback.

If somebody cold calls, you sign a contract and then change your mind you have 7 days to cancel this under the cooling off period.

Obviously both Telecom and Vodafone extend this to all online sales and cover you both ways.
