Will the iPhone 3G work fine on the xt netowrk without hacking it to only pick up 3G

Yes. Out of the box it will be fine as unlike with Vodafone where it has multiple frequencies and technologies to choose from, with XTN it is a single frequency band.

just reciebed this little gem from telecom.

After a minor distraction earlier in the week, we are pleased to report that we will still launch in May. The new date is 29 May, and from that date Telecom will be delivering a world class 3G mobile service to 97% of where Kiwis live and work.

so its gone from a good pr to bad pr now its a minor disctraction .

Over 300k upload is not HSUPA? Then what is it? Its good enough for voip. I doubt umts can get that high...

HSDPA is 384kbps upstream.

That's theoretical max speed, 384k. The speed I got is real time speed, 334kps. The real time speed should be lower than 384k. Am I right?

Last I checked, 334 was indeed lower than 384.

A few posts back you said your upload was over 350k now you are saying something different.

As behodar said, the speed you are getting is less than the theoretical maximum and by about the amount I would expect the real life max to differ from the theoretical max by.

As far as I am aware Vodafone only have HSUPA live in 2 very small parts of the Auckland region anyway, pretty good chance even if you had an HSUPA handset it wouldn't be able to use it on the network as it currently stands anyway.

This has deviated well off the XT Network topic. If you want to carry on wait until you can use your iphone on XTN then create a specific thread with a relevant topic. Then you are at least testing the network relevant to the thread you are posting in.

I hear Telecom will not be launching with GPS, do they ever think things through properly. Vodafone outshines Telecom in so many ways. This was their ideal opportunity to get it right and bring in the new consumers. Where are the new handsets, the stop watch is counting down and there is no info on pre-ordering handsets. Who is going to test the new network?? Hamster Hammond??
