Local = Fine.
International = Fine for dialup.

cokemaster: First off - further personal attacks will result in the closure of the thread at the very minimum. Don't resort to it.

That aside, generally exchange issues as suggested would be mostly affect multiple users around the exchange and its highly probable that it would affect users regardless of provider. In any case, people need to remember that people pay an ISP for support and thus they need to follow this up with their providers (international providers/dsl providers etc) to get this resolved in a timely manner.

Issues are issues - lets not try and distract us from the details.

I agree, no personal attacks :-) It could be exchange related, but since it seems to be effecting xnet more it could be as another posted pointed out xnet's backhaul from Telecom interconnect points back to their network - too much good publicity could be a bad thing if it's going to take a while to commission bigger connections from the handover points.

Personally I hope this isn't a long term problem as I'm starting to move my clients over to xnet...

Detruire: UNUSUAL?!?
On and off over the last three or four months there have been similar international congestion issues for me. And many other users too, from what I read on the GP Forums. However, that time it seemed to be the fault of one bandwidth provider; ANC.

This latest issue, however, has been across both Alter and ANC. And to make things worse, it's been almost a month since international sunk to sub-100kBps. My national, however, merely went up a little to 540kBps.

This is NOT a Telecom problem. If it was, it would not have let my national speed up.

EDIT: Changes a bit of wording. As for following it up with Xnet. That's great. If they respond. X_X

Just to clarify, where suburb do you live in? Whats your DSL sync speeds and your on xnet I assume?

I had this problem a few months ago when I was still with Orcon and my VFX phone service was virtually useless at night. Also I was getting speeds like the ones mentioned in this thread. Orcon told me there was a fault but it was to do with Telecom and that it would be fixed in the next day or 2. The problem was fixed and have had no issues since. I have noticed my speeds have dropped slightly here at night but nothing of any significance. But with saying that too I am only 800 metres from the exchange that I am on.

It would be nice to have XNet publicly acknowledge the issue...

I talked to the WorldXchange helpdesk, and it's a rather complex fault, and they are working to fix it and it will be resolved before the end of next week.

If you are having problems, do a traceroute and see if your second hop is dls01.wxnz.net as these are the connections causing problems.

I don't know what the actual technical problem is but I assume theres either a fault on this connection, or more likely they have too many users provisioned on it and they are having to spread them across to another backhaul connection.

These things happen from time to time even with good ISP's, I'm sure once they fix this we will be back to the wonderful service we are used to expecting from xnet. :-)

It's taken a while, but hopefully the end is in sight. This seems to be what has caused my ongoing issues too:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=15683
Look forward to my speeds retuning to normal and some feedback from WxC as to what the issue has been and why it has taken so long to identify.

Indeed feedback would be nice, but so far it's not exactly forthcoming.

If there is any information to be posted I'm sure it will put up on Geekzone somewhere but until then please do not harrass the Xnet staff.

Excuse me? Are you referring to this thread? I have not emailed or PM'd any XNet staff, so on what grounds am I being accused of harrassing the XNet staff?

As Brad has said, IF Xnet have anything to add to this, they would have done it.They are very helpful, and always let us know of solutions when they are available.

All Brad was pointing out was that you have now asked three times for Xnet for an explanation, Xnet will be following this and I am sure they will let us know when there is something to tell us.

Xnet do not have to post responses here, and do so out of goodwill. If you are having problems then you can contact their call centre and they may be able to explain it better to you.

Exportgoldman has already done this, and unless Maverick, or one of the others, has anything else to add then they may not say anything at all.

Please be patient and I am sure they will let us know when they have a solution.

I live in Whangarei. 5200/128k. Was 7600 when I signed up. Telecom 'repairs' are far from it.

And I have contacted Xnet

I think we may need to split this thread as there seems to be two types of issues here.

The issue discussed primarily within this thread is where the line rates remain the same through the affair, however, performance has significantly dropped.

The other issues where connect rates (ie. the speeds your DSL modem connects at) drop suggests a line, location, or cabinet/exchange specific issue, and perhaps should be pushed into another thread?

I must echo what has been said. However at the same time - if you are having this issue, I would strongly recommend ringing wxc to log a ticket with their helpdesk and perform any troubleshooting suggested.

I think the point is that Mav and his team have chosen to utilize this forum to respond to user queries in the past and for whatever reason on this issue have not chosen to respond at all. To some extent this is a problem of their own making since they have set user expectations accordingly.

While responding on these forums might not be a typical support channel for most ISPs WxC have chosen to take this approach, and kudos to them for doing so. By the same token you can hardly criticizes people for now wanting responses to issues via this channel now however :)

Also to be fair Xnet do a we bit of plugging of their service on here so again their should be a bit of quid pro quo :)

In their defense Xnet have been pretty prompt in responding to users in the past on these forums. Maybe Mav is still over at Bathurst? Wink
