It looks like they are no longer replying to emails, or doing refunds, im one of the lucky ones who got most of my money back, but thee are still a few others who found this site too, that have not heard anything from them in the last few weeks nor been refunded. So it looks like they have done a runner now frm everyone, I don't get the feeling that anyone will hear from them again, as no one has heard anything from them in over a week, I think you may be too late, it looked like they were going to refund everyone, but they havent efunded anyone in a while or replied to any emails, so I get the feeling they are no longer bothering with refunds unfortunately. It is a bummer, as the ghds are very obviously fake and not made very well, so I wouldn't even try to resell them yourselves, I was thinking about removing the ghd name etc over it all and selling as a straight white hair straightener, but theyseem to be faulty aswell, so that wouldn't work either, but I got my money back, so don't need to bother. We have all put in complaints to fair go and the nz commerce commission, thats all via email and really easy to do, so I would suggest doing that aswell. But nothing looks promising anymore that the rest would be resolved sorry.
katiepie86, hate to say it but join the club love! Have been through exactly what you are experiencing...utter frustration, but I and a number of others have tried every avenue we can think of to get our money back with absolutely no luck - and I am talking police involvement, bank request to reverse payment, commerce commission, fair go, consumer magazine, my lawyer...nothing has worked. I have resigned myself to owning fake GHD's that cost me over $200. Actually now, after paying my lawyer for his involvement these fakes have cost me a grand total of $394 and I have got nowhere. I wish you luck, but if you have none believe me you are not the only one banging their head against a brick wall.
I reckon these guys have just shut down their operation.
I am unable to obtain any information about their bank account because of "privacy issues". The Post Office have returned all parcels and mail that I sent as the post office box has been closed. No emails are being answered and I don't think anyone has had any emails from them for at least a week so can only assume that the gmail account is closed also.
The police can't help because the parcel was delivered. The Commerce Commission have investigated my complaint and decided that I don't fit their criteria - think they have bigger fish to fry. Fair Go have had 4 emails from you and I get the standard reply will get back to me etc. As these people have stopped selling or closed their operation down Fair Go won't be much use to us.
I have sent i-store over 200 emails since this all came to light and I have copied and posted these to them on a daily basis. The mail has been returned to me "box closed" so they are gone.
I have decided to let this matter go and wear the $197.40 as a lesson not to buy something just because it is cheaper. I was going to buy off Trademe and then found the i-store site and thought it was a good deal. I did a thorough checking job of them and check phone numbers and bank details and even had emails from the company confirming that the goods were genuine.
I think that we were all well and truely suckered in and unfortunately there is nothing available to us apart from trying to locate these people using a private detective, taking a claim through the disputes tribunal and then suing them. I work in the legal profession so am fairly well up on the play in relation to these claims and its just not worth it. We can't take class actions like they do in America.
Think we will all just need to put this down to experience and try not to get ripped off again. I am scared to use the fake GHD's so will probably just break then up with a hammer and put them in the rubbish bin on Friday.
I think most of the ones for sale on trademe are fakes also. A lot of the pics are exactly the same as the ebay packages which are mostly fakes. Even some of the fakes can be registered on the GHD site now using generated serial numbers.
Do yourself a favour, go and buy them from a authorised dealer, that is the only way you know you are getting the real thing. GHD themselves say 95% of their products sold online are fakes.......
Used my FAKE GHD's last night and guess what - they blew up. Wonderful! Fused all the lights but likely it was easily fixed. They are now in the bin awaiting collection.
Funny enough on trademe over the weekend and notices two identical GHD's to mine being offered for sale. Asked the usual questions and it appears that they are FAKE. The trader is registered in Hillsborough which is close to Mt Roskill. Bet they are the ones that were returned and they are selling them to recoup money. They are going for huge amounts $280 each - stupid. I have posted heaps on the site and will report them to trademe if they don't withdraw them.
Jusat report them to trade me, saying they are pirated/replicas and are fake. They do quickly withdraw them, I was going to buy off a lady on Trade me before buying this, after realising this was fake went back to her, and she honestly told me she just found out they were fake herself, and had asked everyone to return them, she said she went through what she thought was a genuine wholesaler website, not the one we went to, and brought a whole heap, which she now can't sell. I wouldn't trust buying these off trade me, www.medusa.co.nz is a salon based in auckland, and are a genuine seller of these, they offer laybuy over 4weeks through internet, they are a registered seller of these, if anyone still wants one but ca't afford $360 outright, its a good way to go, I think around $82 a week are the payments, and they are definately genuine, or check your local hairdressers, they often allow laybuy over 4-6 weeks too. Its too much of a risk buying anywhere else I have now realised.
I bought some from trademe and the person was from a Salon. The receipt came with the Salon's name. I registered both the numbers on ghdhair.com and they both went through ok. It was only when I went to register the FAKE one that I realised both numbers were the same and when I did it on ghdhair.com it said there was a problem with this number and to contact a number in the UK.
I paid $300 for mine on trade me and my local salon offers then for $345 so not much difference there.
The FAKES are really hard to tell apart from the numbers and the DVD.
You are lucky, it is actually against jemella rules to sell on trade me, I know of two hairdressers that were selling on trade me, and another hair dresser left notes on there autions saying they were going to complain to the jemella corporation if they didn't stop selling on trade me, they quickly stopped. They are governed by a code of ethics and selling on a auction website goes against there codes, so you are lucky, genuine retailers are not meant to be selling on auction sites.
I was a bit worried about buying them off trademe but this person had 100% feedback and when they arrived they were security sealed, and the hologram codes checked out and they appear ok.
But you never know. I have heard of someone buying them from Rodney Wayne and they turned out to be fakes!!
that seems very unlikely for a salon retail chain to sell fakes???? That may be a bit of a fake story, if it were true the buyer would be gauranteed to get their money back, I don't think rodney wayne would risk their reputation and ability to sell ghds buy selling a fake, they would be unable to sell genuine ever again if jemella found that out.
This is easily solved: small claims court. They're then legally required to attend or the adjudicator can order a refund on the spot. Obviously the people running the operation were stupid enough to use real personal details to register the bank account and website. If they don't then comply with the court order, police must get involved and will track them down and arrest them if necessary.

The police do not track down and arrest people who don't comply with dispute tribunal orders. The only time police will be called upon in cases like these is when court baliffs attempt to seize goods to pay reparation/fines and there is the possibility for violence.
The disputes tribunal system is completely controlled by the department of justice from issuing summons to enforcing orders.
