well downloaded Darky's LPQ earlier so my first time on ICS, no problems thus far just a few minor hiccups clearing cache on some apps but looks and feels great. Like the Nova launcher so may invest in the pay version.

you don't need to wipe all your data between upgrades, and you can always backup your current nand and just completely restore if you dont like a rom

but yeah if you dont have much data you dont need to get every update. you can check the changelists and see you want to bother or not. im on slingshot unlimited so it doesnt bother me

A cleaner / safer option is Titanium Backup. I'm a flashaholic, and if it weren't for Titanium, I wouldn't be bothering at all with custom ROMs. Thanks to Titanium, I never have to think twice before flashing a ROM; I never have to worry about redoing all my apps/themes/settings. :)

Yeps. Did you miss 9.7 on the page? Try out 9.6 and see how it goes for you. If you dont like it flash your nandroid backup.

When I looked into this it required a rooted phone to be able to do the complete backup, is that the case?

Put another way with a non rooted warrantied phone that needs to be sent back and cleared, how does one back it up if one can't root it?

I've found sometimes when flashing the leaked ICS roms the bat needs a day or two to settle.
If you use CPU spy and find deep sleep an issue. Shut down and take the batt out for 10 seconds.
Hopefully that will help.

I'm just downloading now the official to try. Hope all goes well Cool

If you use the zergrush exploit, it won't void your warranty. It uses in-memory exploits in the kernel to gain temporary root access. You then install the su binary and SuperUser apk to get permanent root. No need to flash a kernel or a custom firmware. You can use DooMLorD's script to automatically do all this. If you want to unroot the phone all you have to do is delete SuperUser.apk and su. :)
