If the product is no longer being supported, then that's it. The end of it's lifetime. It says so right there.
I guess this is where your definition of "lifetime" varies to mine, I would say when it dies the lifetime is over,

"Lifetime of product"
Depends on whether the product is the box or the service.
With products that have lifetime warranties, it is generally tied to the person who purchased it. ALthough I recall one story on fair go, where the manufacturer had a 'lifetime warranty' on a product, but they claimed it was a product lifetime, and that products of that type only have a life of 10 years. But I don't think that held up.
IANAL, and people may have different interpretations. However from what I can see, with a Tivo Account, it looks like it is tied to the actual device itself, since it is called 'product lifetime service'. So if the hardware dies, then it looks like the license to use the service (which would include the online Genie and EPG) dies with it. So you can't use the EPG on another imported tivo device for example(if that was even possible). That is similar to an OEM windows license which is tied to the product, and you can't use the software on another device. Windows also doesn't die if they stop supporting it, or microsoft goes out of business, you can continue to use the software for the life of the hardware.
They do have the terms of use for the service here, but there isn't any info that I can see on the product lifetime service http://www.mytivo.co.nz/abouttivo/termsandconditions/
Hi, I am receiving the Failed While Configuring error again on my two TiVos, since December 21. I note on the tivo.co.nz website that a patch is being applied [notice updated December 22] , and that if you continue to receive the error that you should email the Support team. This I will do, but in the meantime, I was wondering whether anyone else is still affected by this problem at the moment? Or whether the Patch has indeed fixed it for other TiVo users...
Yep same here. The "FIX" has caused me to get the same error.
TiVo Genie now appears to be working but only any use if the EPG guide can update.
The three TiVo's I have registered to my account have all failed as well. Just emailed support with my experience.
Good sign they are actively trying to resolve it and good longer term if the Genie service has also been resolved rather than just scrapped.
Same here
Last success was 21st Dec
I have sent a notice to support also
mattwnz: Hope they are not closed over the Xmas break, as many business shut until the 7th of Jan, and by the time the Epg will have run out. But I guess it is a good time to get outside and turn of the tv for a few weeks.

And hopefully pick up a bargain on a Freeview alternative device.
Do the name brands still offer any recorders, or are we stuck with the DishTV China boxes?
Panasonic make a few for NZ... I'm looking here in Oz for an alternative as my in-laws love their TiVo but it's "having issues" according to them. I haven't been there while the issues present themselves so I'm not sure exactly what's going on.

The problem is that they seem to be moving to these ondemand systems that connect to freeview. There is Panasonic but quite pricey last time I looked at it, and the tivo has advantages over it, including the ability to transfer recorded TV to the computer. I don't think freeview approved systems allow that.

Yes, Merry Christmas, the Tivo Service is down again. I also noticed that Oz channel 12 (the HD version of One) was missing its EPG, as was Channel 99 missing its. Last connection was Thursday 22 Dec at 10:28am (AEST).
I looked at a replacement in the Humax 4Tune PVR, which isn't FreeviewPlus certified, but it's compatible & follows the HbbTV 1.5 standard. This gives the benefit that it uses the same EPG, but allows un-encrypted recordings to be offloaded (which the certification forbids). There's a 1TB internal HDD & a handy 2.5" drive slot on the front, and USB slots, none of which are USB 3.0 yet. A bit dear, but has all the right bits.
Merry Christmas!
My TiVo is packed away in a moving box so won't be able to test it for about another 2 weeks when I unpack. May just end up a digital tuner if the EPG is permanently broken..

Hi SmackJay
Does the Humax4tune PVR work in New Zealand ? I see it's available in Australia but aren't there differences in the Freeview standards between Aus & NZ. Like when you first set up the Tivo & some Panasonic Freeview recorders the machine asks in in NZ or Australia & goes to the set up for that countries standard ?
So the message I got back from TiVo Support mentions AEST hours on Australian business days only...so I looked on some Australian forums and they are also having the same problem...in fact, I kinda gather that people feel the Patch may have caused the problem this time. In other words, the problem was fixed and everything was working fine up to December 21, then the Patch was applied on December 22, and the error re-appeared, with last success on December 21. Go Figure... Hopefully, they will be back in work this week and address the issue...
