jonathan18: Do the radar-equipped 3s use (or did they use!) the radar for managing distance on adaptive cruise control, or just the cameras? And how good a system is it?

I ask because I find the system on my Y incredibly twitchy, rushing to catch up to the car in front then needing to brake relatively heavily. I wondered if it was worse for the switch away from radar, or if this was typical. (While the adaptive CC on my last car didn’t work below 30, at speeds above that I think it was better at maintaining distance than the Tesla.)

Nah, radar cars do/did the same. There was a period where it was the opposite and it was rather slow to react to the car in front moving.

Bung: What does your Tesla do in adaptive cruise when following a car that turns out of the lane to turn left or right? Our 2019 Suzuki panics and brakes unless you add some pressure on accelerator. I think older Tesla did something similar.

If the car isn't in the lane then it doesn't care. With my radar equipped car it would brake for the ghost of a car that turns across my lane even though they were never a threat and they were already out of mine. In the Vision cars this is suppose to be resolved.

I was looking forward to the .24 update because it allows you to reposition the blind spot image when indicating.
Not so happy that it ditches radar.

I can't believe nobody's thinking of pulling the trigger on a Model 3.

I have heard (don't have enough experience myself, yet) that the car gets lets twitchy if you put it in chill mode when driving in queues. In my limited experience that seemed to work (that was on a Model 3 SR+ 2021 model).

In a queue I think you can also get the car less twitchy by lowering the set speed so that it won't try to get up to the set speed all the time. At least that worked well for me in the Model 3.

I see the title of this thread has changed to more accurately reflect the content. How long ago did it change? Not the most observant you see!

Anyhow, now I have updated to 2022.24.6 I have been trying the various positions available for the blind spot camera display. I have settled on the one just below the speed readout, rather than it’s original position, or on the map display. What have other users chosen?

Below the speedo for me too. Seems quite natural to look there.

Ditto. While having only had the car for a few weeks, I found myself not looking immediately to the original location, but to exactly where I have been able to relocate it to! Not sure of the benefits of sticking it on the left side.

I guess the benefit of on the left is if your hand position still obscures the display (particularly if you have a hud 😁) and allows more space for the situation display.

What would be really good is if you could put what you want where you want it. For instance 99% of the time I know where I’m going and because I don’t have premium connectivity, don’t get traffic updates. So the huge map display is quite literally a waste of space for me. I would rather have the media display larger and some of the control screens up.

I wonder if there is a certification requirement that prevents users choosing their configuration, but surely that would only be vital operational information.

The beauty of everything being software driven would be the ability to set “tiles” to your liking and have them saved to your driver profile.

I've noticed a new icon has turned up on the Tesla app widget on my phone - I'm assuming it represents a key card but I can't work out (and haven't been able to find out) what it actually means. Sometimes it's white like in the image below, other times it's greyed out. Can anyone enlighten me as to its purpose? Ta...

@jonathan18 It is an icon to indicate a Bluetooth connection to your car which is also used for car key but a few other things now (opening the frunk without conformation being one). When this icon shows it means if you hit the frunk button it'll just open as it sends the command over Bluetooth. This also means you can open your car too.

Seems this is more an Android thing though as I don't have that icon on my iPhone but I've also heard from others that Android is a little more finicky with the bluetooth connection / car key than iPhones are.

Thanks, Michael, that all makes sense.

Yeah, the first day of ownership I struck problems with the Android phone app, with it suddenly refusing to operate as a key despite BT connecting to the car. (A reinstall of the app fixed that in the end.)

As for the failure of the car to wake via the app (SMS not BT), as discussed earlier, I'll have the occasional problem where it'll not connect, but after another try or two it'll wake up - nothing like the earlier issue of it not connecting at all until back in BT range. Is anyone else still experiencing this problem?

The waking problem only happens if the car is in a deep sleep. So if you have Sentry Mode active then you shouldn't have this issue.

I am experiencing it less now.

Yeah, it was previously standard for the car to become unresponsive when parked at work all day, which aligns with the deep sleep thing; I didn't think it was worth running sentry mode primarily to ensure a connection was possible.

Do you and other Tesla owners here on GZ keep sentry mode on much of the time (outside of the home)? I'll enable it if parking in an iffy location but otherwise haven't done so on a regular basis.

Outside of home Sentry Mode is always enabled (automatic). It uses bugger all battery, and also protects your car. I only ever manually turn this off, never manually turn it on.

Imagine the day somebody dings your car door; you're really going to wish you had Sentry mode on then.

TBH, the biggest danger to my car is me! (As evidenced by breaking a window in week three of ownership). But I take your point - will switch it to auto.

BTW, I'll readily concede that Tessie is an excellent app; once my free month is up I'm looking to take out an annual sub. Frustrating that I have to unlock my phone to action voice commands, but totally get this is a Google issue not specific to the app. I'd like to see them add the ability to group multiple actions into a single automation, but routines in GA works ok as an alternative.
