Rikkitic: There is strength in numbers. If anyone wants to make an issue out of this, for example through the Commerce Commission for false advertising, I would be happy to join in. I agree that genuine mistakes can happen and should not be penalised but I also agree that the company has not handled this well. What is to stop any company from making crazy advertising promises and then claiming after the fact that it was an error?  There has to be some kind of accountability to prevent abuse. Maybe 20 or 30 of us should send a joint letter to the company (in the first instance). What do the rest of you think about this?

I think it is a giant waste of time, but have fun.

I've been part of something similar at least 5 times (I remember ordering $5 graphics cards from Ascent in the early 2000s). They cancel your order and state it was an error.

Why is everyone so up in arms about this?

Because they advertise "Crazy" deals, and this was a crazy deal [FACT]
Because they cancelled orders without notifying people [FACT]
Because when they eventually did email it was impersonal and sounded like a tripe excuse [FACT]
Because 4 days on, still no funds back into accounts [FACT]

This is the only part that I can see customers having any comeback on and I agree is totally unacceptable.

My Paypal is still showing Pending and the funds are still held by JB HiFi. Has anyone had any luck getting a full refund yet? What process was followed. It is getting to nearly a week since they have taken the money.

Yeah, but was is being advertised 'on sale' at $5. Something for $5 is far more likely to be a pricing mistake if it was normally hundreds, and wasn't advertised as being 'on sale' next to it. In this case it was advertised as part of their crazy sale, and was shown to be on sale, for an amount that appeared to be a valid price for something like this that was discounted, or to clear old stock. They also never said in their email it was a pricing error, but something to do with 'porting'. This means that it possibly may have been related to quantities they had available at that lower price, as I read on facebook that some people said they did buy them instore at that price.
If it was a pricing error, they should have just come out and said it was priced wrongly and cancelled it on that basis, and not cancelled the order based on some fine print in their clauses which wasn't related to pricing errors. They didn't even offer it for another price, it was just cancelled, which means they may have had limited stock.

Post four in this thread implies this is most likely a pricing mistake. Anyone that purchased after reading that, gave up their right to complain about having money tied up. I purchased one knowing full well it was a pricing error, but i'm not going to get my knickers in a twist. Was worth a shot I figured.

Good luck with your fights though.

Actually post 3. But you get that sort of comment for legit deals too, so someone posting that who has nothing to do with the deal, doesn't mean that it couldn't have been a legit deal. If you ordered, then you must have thought that there was at least some chance that it may have been legit. Otherwise why did you order? The thing is that they also didn't come out and say it was a pricing mistake.

No I didn't think it was legit TBH, I just ordered on the off chance they honoured it for some stupid reason. Which i've seen happen recently with a pricing error (another company). Gotta be in to win etc.

Regarding the people in this thread saying some people got them instore at that price - do you know that or are you going on what someone has told you?

Also, it is possible that IF someone picked one up instore for that price, that the salesman looked at the website, saw it at that price and sold it for that. It was a Saturday wasn't it? Chances are the head office people that would normally OK this sort of thing were not there?

Bit like the Dick Smith debacle back in 2011 (I think) where everything on the website was $0, but there was a freight charge.
I placed an order just to see what would happen, and how they would handle it.  (There was a thread about it here on GZ.)
My c/card duly got charged with $4.95
It made the press, where Dicky claimed 'purchasers' would be refunded the freight charges and they would be contacted and offered 10% discount on their next purchase.

I received the credit about a week later but I'm still waiting for the email offering me the discount.

Hasn't stopped me buying form Dick Smith if they happened to have what I want at the right price though.  Sh*t happens.

Your last two words sum it up. Clearly they also got lost in their process and will learn, but yes, S.H.

Not at all, as $0 on all products is clearly an pricing mistake.   I presume they weren't advertising it as a Crazy sale at the  time either. In this case it was a single product that was reduced in price to a price that could have been a legit sale / clearance price to clear old stock. Also in their letter to customer cancelling the order, they didn't say it was infact a pricing error, and that they had cancelled the order as it was incorrectly priced.

I someone did pick it up instore, and asked them to match the online price, then you would expect the store to contact those people to say that it was a pricing error, and to either get them to return it, or pay the difference. I believe they are entitled to do that for genuine pricing errors.

Sorry, to clarify, I was referring to the way they handled the customer comms.  Not comparing the type of error or whether the buyer was/wasn't entitled to the goods.
